Ted Robinette, of the Willys Overland Club, Victoria, Austrlia sent me these images of an unusual FC-170 which he saw on a trip to California in November, 1996. I've never seen this truck before. Does anyone out there know of this vehicle?

This truck is owned by a Mr. Elwood Toby who said he needed to accommodate a growing family and was inspired to stretch it after seeing a convoy of military FCs in the late 1960s. Both the cab and frame were extended about 24". And as you can see, daily use has taken its toll on the paint and trim, but it is still a neat vehicle. Perhaps Mr. Toby might get in touch with me and update us on this interesting project.

Mr. Toby gave up years ago trying to keep all the Willys mechanicals reliable and has progressively modified the vehicle to include a 400 cid Chevrolet V-8, T-400 automatic, Chevy front axle, Ford rear axle and Pontiac steering.

Dave Davis added this in August of 2005: Elwood Toby's FC-170 custom truck - Mr. Toby lives (lived) in Chatsworth California on Lassen Street. I lived down the street from them in the 70's. We called his rig the "Toby Truck" when ever we saw his son zooming by. I think this truck is the source of my fascination with jeep FC trucks. Dave Davis
